2016 JEAN MONNET SEMINARS ON EUROPEAN SECURITY

‘Strengthening Democratic Security Governance in the European Union’s Neighbourhood: Integrating Research into Policy’

Workshop

Odesa, Ukraine

17 September 2016

Funded by Jean Monnet Programme of the European Union, the International Association for Institutional Studies (Ukraine) in partnership with the National University ‘Odesa Law Academy’ will host 2016 Jean Monnet Seminars on European Security in Odesa, Ukraine in 17 September 2016. The goal of this workshop is to provide participants (academics, public servants and SSR advisors from Ukraine) with an understanding of European approach to support security sector reform in European Neighbourhood countries with a focus to a broad range of civilian and military instruments.

Through its practical and exercised-based methodology, the workshop will provide participants with a solid introduction to European practice, both the political and technical aspects of security sector reform; it will create a platform for evaluation of the EU’s approach to SSR in the Eastern Partnership countries in comparison with NATO approach in PfP countries. The workshop, specifically targeted at middle level of public servants in Ukraine (police officers, military and civil staff of security institutions, deputies of local councils and other practitioners) will enhance the knowledge base, skills and technical competence in the performance of their security sector reform roles in stable and post-conflict situations.
